Quantum of Solace - Disappointing

Went to see the latest Bond flick and both [info]jgaleckas were disappointed. The story was disjointed and focused way too much on revenge for both James and the Bolivian agent (the bond girl) whose revenge was really not important to the plot at all. The movie started out promising, with betrayal and a secret organization that MI6 wasn't even aware existed setting up a great possibility and then it degenerated into weak scenes of revenge and angst.

After Casino Royale I expected better. Really. I would rate this as one of the worst Bond films story wise. Craig plays Bond with style again and is more believable than any other and the stunts were great. The homage to Goldfnger is quite interesting as well, but not enough to make up for the weak story. Add that to the big climax scene, which I could nerdgas on for hours, followed by the anti-climatic finale scene - feh - it just left me flat.

I suspect Craig will be back for the next Bond film and I hope they have a better story. I was suspect right from the start when I saw three writers getting credit. That usually means the story was weak from the start and the other two were hired to clean it up. Most times that does not work. This was one of those. We now wait for two years to see if they can do better.
