The Hot - The temperature
The Sweet - The Blueberries
The Sticky - My sweat-soaked t-shirt
jgaleckas and I went blueberry picking yesterday over in Indiana. We ran out of frozen blueberries (from the last picking) a few months ago so it was time to go pick more. Going on a Friday morning was good since the bushes had a chance to recuperate from the heavy weekend picking and there were not many other pickers.
The crop is good this year with large clusters of fat berries which make the picking go fast. We managed to pick 36 pounds in three hours. I was very glad Janice had thought to bring the water bottles we have for the bikes so we had water while out in the bush.
After picking we hit a favorite Chinese buffet restaurant in Michigan City (after getting completely turned around thanks to a lack of good road signage) and then home. On the way home we had the "20 minute gas stop" thanks to a station that had a sign on the interstate stating gas for $4.14, which was significantly less than most others. We got off and into a traffic jam due to construction on the exit. After winding our way to the station, they had a price of $4.21 WTF! Needless to say we moved on down the road through the traffic jam again to a different station with the same $4.21 price but at least what they advertised and I must have my principles.
Unfortunately the exit to get back on the interstate was closed and not a detour sign to be seen. Janice asked inside how we got back on the interstate and as we got close(about a mile form the original exit) we saw a detour sign. I thought about how since we were familiar with the area this was only an annoyance but if you were just driving through on a trip you would be in a quandary for sure - especially the guys since we know they never ask for directions (oops stereotype alert!)
All in all a fun day.
